So, you want to be an archer? Well, there's a couple of things you are going to need. The first is a good bow and unless you just want to look cool hauling the bow around, you'll need a few arrows too. I am going to give locations for some of the more rare equipment, stuff that you can't find in every town. If you need a list of all arrow vendors Maggie the Jackcat's Bargains page. She has a super list of all the locations of all the arrow vendors and there's no point in me doing work that has already been done by her.

If you are a new player and don't have a bunch of friends to give you a ton of uber equipment from the start there's still hope. AC introduced a bunch of "newbie" quests a few months ago and you can get some pretty good loot, including a +50% Yumi w/ Bow Master II on it as well as some decent leather armour and jewelry that just about any character should be able to use. Another option for the bow is to contact a Yumi's for Newbies agent and they will provide you with a basic +113% bow.

Where to get it.

Fletching Tool:

Barbed Fletching Tool:
Empyrean Cloister - 23.4s - 5.8e
(near Yaraq) There is a good write up on the quest on Maggie the Jackcat's website. Just go to the Hobbies section and find the Barbed Fletching tool quest.

What you need and why you need it.

Elemental and Greater Arrows

There are many different types of arrows and it is always good to know the best type of arrow to use against what ever you are hunting. For a guide to Quest Arrows, Greater Arrows and Elemental arrows, click HERE. If you would liketo know how to make these check out my Fletching and Alchemy guides.

Fletching Tool

This is only slightly less than compleatly useless. Unless you want to carve your pumpkin you'll hardly ever use this. You won't often pick up sticks to make arrows because you'll probably never be so broke you can't afford at least normal arrows. If you can't afford to fail while making bundles of arrows, you can also use this tool to break the bundle open to make arrows in batches of 10.

Barbed Fletching Tool

I find this much more usefull if you can get your hands on one at lower levels. The barbed arrows do much better damage than normal arrows for the same price. As long as you have fletching you can make barbed arrows and save quite a bit of money which is very important when you are getting started. This is part of the Obsidian Dagger quest and there is a good walk-though on Maggie the Jackcat's website.

Fletching Bundles

Some folks call these fletching peas, but no matter what you call them I love them. You can make batches of 250 arrows at one time, but the cost of failure is high. They are expensive, but they allow you to carry components for thousands of arrows for very little burden.

Other Equipment

Dillo Hide Coat

Lightweight and decent armour for a young archer. While not as good as a Matty coat it will be a bit cheaper to buy if you do need to get your own.

Matty Coat

This is a little tougher to get on your own, but it is great armour and very light weight. If you have a good patron chances are he'll have an extra one on a mule somwhere he can give you. It may not look as cool as the Ursin Hide coat it has a much lower value and you won't lose it when you die... usually.
